This year, help your toddlers feel welcome in the sukka with their own chairs, tables and benches made especially for their size.

Across the street from the new Mamilla Hotel is a hidden Jerusalem gem. Avraham’s carpentry shop, also known as, Casurla Pornirma has been on Rechov Shlomo Hamelech for 40 years. Avrahan grew up in the Old City of Jerusalem and has been creating beautiful custom pieces of furniture from a variety of woods.  Make sure to ring the bell or call out his name because Avraham is usually in the back of the workshop creating new pieces. His prices are reasonable and the quality is great. Choose from a variety of woods.  Paint color can be added for an additional charge.

Batim Mebifnim “Houses From Within” : Friday Sept 11, 2009

This is a special yearly event when Jerusalemites are given access to homes, offices and special buildings around the city. The event includes many tours and you can always find one appropriate for children. This year they do not have specific children’s events but the following events are ones that we think would be appropriate for kids. Hebrew Music Bell Concert at the YMCA at 5:00pm and a tour of the Light Rail Depot which includes boarding a future train at 10:00am. Check their website for a detailed list of tours. When you print the exhibit booklet there is an icon of a man & child next to each event that is open to children.

Kids Gardening

Teach your children to contribute to their community while teaching them a love for plants and flowers. Many of the community gardens throughout the city have weekly volunteer days where children are encouraged to come and help tend to the plants, plant new plants and create paths. Gardens include Ginot Shimrit on Rechov Halafta in Katamon (Wednesday 5:00pm) and the Mercaz Tarbut Garden in the Nature Museum in the German Colony (Thursdays at 4:30pm). Check our calendar for exact dates and times.
