This museum takes visitors on a trip to the past when Yonatan Hachashmonai established the first Jewish Settlement in Gaza. Learn the history of the area from then until the expulsion of the Jews from Gaza in 2006.
The museum is set up in an apartment near Mahane Yehuda. The exhibits include pictures, Torah scrolls and artifacts from Gush Katif. Visitors can also watch two videos about Jewish life and industry in Gush Katif before the expulsion and a movie about life in the area after. The museum does make strong political statements but it also gives the visitor a real understanding of what the communities were like and how they suffered.
The museum can be visited alone or with an organized tour guide arranged in advance.
The Gush Katif Museum may not be appropriate for young children, but can be very memorable for teens and children over the age of 7.
