Yeshiva Break Chocolate-and-Charity Tour in Jerusalem: Tuesday Jan. 26, 2010
A delicious and meaningful Chocolate-and-Charity Tour.  The day’s program includes a fabulous (and delicious) hands-on chocolate workshop in the morning, and a volunteer tzedaka project in the afternoon.  Price include all fees, including transportation, and a chocolate ‘treat’ and snack at the end of the day.

Jerusalem Parks: Jerusalem has a variety of neighborhood parks and themed parks. Click here for a full list and a map. Kids love the Monster Slide Park, Porcupine Park and Gan Sacher which includes an exercise equipment area and a skateboard park.

Bloomfield Science Museum: Daily workshops usually starting at 4pm with topics including DNA, Fingerprints and Building. Call to confirm times.  
Israel Museum: Model of Jerusalem During the 2nd Temple (outdoors), Youth Wing includes a Recycle Workshop on Tuesday and Art Workshops on Mondays. The Museum is under construction and certain areas can only be reached via steps. Check our Calendar for activity times.
Islamic Museum: Magnificent watch exhibit (older children will enjoy), armor and weaponry exhibit.

Other Activities
City of David (Ir David) Just Dig It:Take part in a historic archaeological dig as you sift through dirt from the Temple Mount looking for remnants of pottery, ancient weapons, jewlery and more. This activity is free but requires a reservation. It takes place outdoors under a tent. Call *6033. 
Jerusalem Zoo: The Biblical Zoo is a MUST SEE activity. They recently opened a new Wet Side Story Exhibit featuring fish and marine life. On Fridays you can feed and ride the elephants. There is also a 3D movie called BUGS which is shown every 40 minutes until March. The movie is in Hebrew but if you call in advance they will show the movie in English for a group.

Theater
Jerusalem Theater:January Shows include “My Party” “Apartment to Rent” “King Ferdinand” . Shows are in Hebrew. Visit our Calendar for details.
Train Theater:Children’s Theater in Gan Hapaamon (next to the Inbal Hotel). They have story theater and plays each week in Hebrew.
Tower of David Light Show: Great sound and light show about the history of Jerusalem. 45 minutes. Dress warmly. Not for young kids.

Toddler
Yankuta:Wonderful and clean indoor play area for toddlers. Yankuta also has a variety of daily classes including baby yoga, baby movement and music classes. Its close to the hotels and a great place for parents to have a break as their young kids play.
Mall shows:Hadar Mall in Talpiot, Malcha Mall and HaPisga have a full list of kids shows, art workshops and baking workshops throughout the week. Check our calendar for details. The shows are in Hebrew but young children can enjoy the magic, music andlaughter even if they cant understand the Hebrew. Best of all its FREE.

Torchlight and Flags – races and parades across the city  
 
The Jerusalem Municipality’s Society Department will host Hanukkah events across the city, including torchlight races with participation of soldiers, bereaved families, members of youth movements and IDF volunteers, under the title ”To the light of heroes in those days, at this time”.

The races will end at the Tower of David and at 17:15, where a ceremony will be held for lighting the second candle of Hanukkah, with honorable guest Mayor Nir Barkat, bereaved families, IDF soldiers and IDF volunteers.

Jerusalem Biblical Zoo

New Exhibit “Wet Side Story”: Follow a drop of water as it falls in the North of Israel in the Hula Valley and continues on a worldwide journey, meeting fish and other animals from different habitats in Israel. At the end of the journey, the drop reaches the coral reef of the Red Sea. In its journey, the drop has to pass through human interventions such as dams, contaminated rivers, water pumps, agricultural water and more. This exhibit is contained within three huge water tanks. Birkat Cohanim “Priestly Blessing” at the Kotel
Monday October 5, 2009

If you have never been to the Kotel (Western Wall) for the Birkat Cohanim, then it is a true “Chavaya” experience. This Succot on Monday of Chol Hamoed, walk to the Kotel (Western Wall) and see thousands of people recite and receive the priestly blessing.
Time:Prayers begin at 8:15am and the Birkat Cohanim for Shacharit is usually recited around 9am and for Mussaf at 10am.
Getting There:Keep in mind that the Old City will be closed to private cars during Succot. There will be an Egged Bus line from the Carta parking lot to the Kotel.

Israel Museum
Entrance to the Israel Museum will be free for children under the age of 18 during Succot. Performances and workshops are an additional fee. Children can enjoy the model of Jerusalem in the time of the Second Temple, an exhibit of decorative masks and a special Israeli toy exhibit. Museum of Islamic Art

Come and see a magnificent watch display at the Museum of Islamic Art on Palmach in Katamon. This exhibit is appropriate for children ages 6+. The museum also has a permanent exhibit that includes armor for horses and soldiers, that all young kids will appreciate.

During Sukkot the Museum of Islamic Art has wonderful Arts & Crafts workshops. Workshops include sword and shield making, jewelry, drawing, creating boxes, bags and designing musical instruments and clocks. Costs range from 15 NIS- 25NIS. City Of David Attractions

The City of David “Ir David” offers a variety of family activities in Ir David and at the Haas Promenade “Tayelet”. Through the different activities learn about the history of the City of David during the time of the Temples. The Old City will be closed to private cars but there will be a special line of Egged buses running to the Western Wall from the Carta parking lot. From the Western Wall it is an easy 5 minute walk to the entrance of Ir David. Make a left when you come out of the gate next to the Kotel and then your first right. Bloomfield Science Museum: “Touching Water” October 2-11, 2009

Come and enjoy the successful water exhibit at the Bloomfield Science Museum. On Succot they will be offering free workshops including exhibit tours, a workshop about flowing water, a creative art workshop for kids and a family workshop. There will also be special showings of their multimedia performance “SPLASH” for an additional fee of 15 NIS. The show includes live performance, dance, music and video presentations and is about a little boy named Dani who is afraid of the water. The show is in Hebrew and best for kids ages 2-10. Batim Mebifnim “Houses From Within” : Friday Sept 11, 2009

This is a special yearly event when Jerusalemites are given access to homes, offices and special buildings around the city. The event includes many tours and you can always find one appropriate for children. This year they do not have specific children’s events but the following events are ones that we think would be appropriate for kids. Hebrew Music Bell Concert at the YMCA at 5:00pm and a tour of the Light Rail Depot which includes boarding a future train at 10:00am. Check their website for a detailed list of tours. When you print the exhibit booklet there is an icon of a man & child next to each event that is open to children.

Kids Gardening

Teach your children to contribute to their community while teaching them a love for plants and flowers. Many of the community gardens throughout the city have weekly volunteer days where children are encouraged to come and help tend to the plants, plant new plants and create paths. Gardens include Ginot Shimrit on Rechov Halafta in Katamon (Wednesday 5:00pm) and the Mercaz Tarbut Garden in the Nature Museum in the German Colony (Thursdays at 4:30pm). Yankuta is a new Baby/Child Center in Talbieh. They have a wonderful and clean mischakiya ideal for toddlers and young kids with a rock climbing wall, playmobil, pretend kitchen and more. They offer a variety of fun classes for kids ages babies-6. Classes include story theater, movement classes, baby/child yoga. They also offer exercise classes for pregnant women and for women after birth, along with nursing assistance. Come and taste their .8% caffeinated coffee. The Butterfly House & Night Tours of the Botanical Gardens

Bring the whole family to the Botanical Gardens in Givat Ram to see the special Butterfly exhibit. Learn about the special role of the butterfly and how we can help keep them in our surroundings. Islamic Museum of Art

Come and see a magnificent watch display at the Museum of Islamic Art on Palmach in Katamon. This exhibit is appropriate for children ages 6+. The museum also has a permanent exhibit that includes armor for horses and soldiers, that all young kids will appreciate. During school vacations the Museum of Islamic Art has wonderful Arts & Crafts workshops. Workshops include sword and shield making, jewelry, drawing, creating boxes, bags and designing musical instruments and clocks. Costs range from 15 NIS- 25NIS. Caricature Exhibit & Night Spectacular at the Tower of David

An impressive collection of work from over 50 Israeli caricature and sketch artists. Inspired by daily life, sporting events, Jerusalem public figures in this complex and special city.  This exhibit is open until the end of October.
