The Bloomfield Science Museum Jerusalem is an interactive and educational museum that makes science and technology fun for the whole family. They have ongoing exhibits, special workshops and shows. Call ahead to confirm the schedule of events for the day.  When I took my kids there this summer my son told me “I dont want to stay here the whole afternoon…I want to stay here the whole day!”. All of the exhibits are fun and exciting and they encourage the children to interact with them. The Museum is closed on Sundays.

Workshops are in Hebrew. Most guides in the museum can speak English.

“Special Touching Water Exhibit” (Closed for the Winter and will re-open Spring 2010)
Enjoy a hands on exhibit about the power of water in the outside courtyard.

“Luna Park”
This exhibit teaches children about the relationship between Luna Park Attraction Rides and the laws of physics. My son loved riding on the carousel, as I peddled to make it go around. There are also exhibits that explain roller coasters and weight lifting.

“Evolution: Darwin Today”
Special Exhibit celebrating the 200th year since Darwin’s birth. Workshops include DNA Workshops, Building Workshops, Fingerprints. Call ahead to confirm times.

“Electricity is Not Just an Electric Chair”
At the Exhibition you will be able to see how electricity has become “fuel” that moves nearly the whole of technology. You will be able to see the principles lying behind the various electric light bulbs; learn how a strong electric current can turn even the air into a magnet or can make an aluminum ring fly; you will see how an electric motor and a dynamo work and whether there is any difference between them; you will be able to understand how a micro-wave oven works and hear the electric currents flowing in your own body.

“Science is the Story”
“Science is THE Story” is a multi-disciplinary exhibition that evokes pleasant memories of the outstanding children’s literature published in Israel over the decades. It also shows us that science is everywhere – even in stories.

“Discovering Levers”
The exhibition is designed especially for pre-schoolers and invites us to operate simple machinery and to check its efficiency. Simple machinery, like the crane, the screw and the pulley demonstrate a simple principle: The “mechanical advantage”. This means that one can gain distance at the expense of force or force at the expense of distance. The giant spoon in the “balls and forces” exhibit, the door handle and the crane for lifting weights – all use this principle, as do the pulley-blocks on the deck of a ship and in the exhibit “Pulley Elevator.”

“The Peace Labyrinth”
The Peace Labyrinth is an interactive exhibition first presented in the Netherlands by Peace Education Projects. The exhibition introduces visiting children and teenagers to issues, points of view and dilemmas that affect the course of interpersonal and inter-group relations. The exhibition is constructed in the form of a labyrinth. The search for the right path requires thinking and decision-making that lead to various consequences. Here, as in real life, the pursuit of peace is a complex and fascinating task, but one with an attainable goal.

How To Get To The Science Museum…
By Car
From Tel Aviv – From the highway entrance to Jerusalem, turn right onto Herzl Blvd. After passing a row of hotels, turn left onto Wolfsohn St. Take the first right, at the sign for the University and a left after going around the traffic circle. You’ll soon see the Museum on your left. Parking is ample and free.

By Bus
Take Egged number 9, 24, or 28 to Hebrew University, Givat Ram. The Museum is a five-minute walk from there.
